Occupational Therapy

What is OT?

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps people who are experiencing difficulty in day-to-day activities due to injury, illness, or disability. Occupational therapists at Tall Tree follow a patient-centred practice that begins by looking at the areas of occupational performance (or daily functioning) that have been impaired. An OT evaluation goes on to explore what factors contribute to these problems (whether they are physical, cognitive, psychological, or social).

Together the therapist and client will develop goals to address current limitations.

OT Practice:

Occupational Therapy sessions may focus on:

  1. Improving deficits related to cognitive and perceptual abilities.
  2. Functional treatment programs involving interventions like one-on-one Yoga Therapy and Therapeutic Exercise.
  3. In-home functional assessments where the Occupational Therapist will recommend improvements in home-setup and suggest specialized equipment. These recommendations will allow patients to be successful with their activities of daily living and with their ability to live independently.
  4. Patient education focused on injury prevention, ergonomics, body mechanics, work simplification, joint protection, energy conservation, relaxation, and pain management.
