Cayla Douglas
Occupational Therapist | Commercial Drive, Vancouver
Areas of Expertise: Concussion recovery, youth and adult trauma & mental health, fine motor and executive function within pediatrics and physical injury with a specialization of persistent pain management.
My first experiences of rehabilitation included witnessing my mother and brother endure painful rehabilitation treatments following a workplace injury of the shoulder for my mother that included torn rotator cuff muscles and severe lower leg burns for my brother. Observing these rehabilitation treatments as an adolescent, I thought to myself, I can do this type of work and do it better with less pain for the people I work with. This personal experience has shaped me into the clinician I am today that is a passionate advocate for evidence-based, client-centred, equitable and inclusive access to high quality rehabilitation services. That is why I have chosen Tall Tree as a place to work as their core value is “healthcare the way it should be done”.
My personal experience has provided me with an understanding of the life disruption that often occurs following injury and the importance of re-engaging in our meaningful activities/occupations. Therefore, my therapeutic environment includes a caring and safe space for diverse clients to discuss their current occupational challenges. I consider myself a positive and curious person that is always eager to learn alongside my clients. For me, being an Occupational Therapist is not just a career; it is a way of being that fully encompasses my life values.
Activities that are meaningful to me include socializing with friends and family, reading the newest non-fiction book, running, hiking, snowboarding and playing with my cat Toebie (polydactyl – he has six toes on each paw!).
