Jessica is an occupational therapist with over 15 years of experience in a variety of settings. She graduated from the University of Alberta in 2007 and began working in pediatric school-based therapy in Alberta. She moved to Victoria and worked in the hospital setting between 2009-2016 with the majority of her time spent working in acute neurosciences - assessing and treating clients who had sustained stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal injury/surgery and other neurological diagnoses. Other acute care experience includes working in senior’s health, oncology, hospice, and general medical units. She has also worked in inpatient and outpatient neurological rehabilitation programs through Island Health. In 2017 Jessica transitioned to focusing on concussion rehabilitation and managing the community support of clients with moderate-severe traumatic brain injuries.
Jessica has completed additional education in stroke care and brain injury, concussion, cognitive assessment and treatment, ADHD management strategies, and wheelchair prescription including power mobility. In the realm of mental health she has completed courses in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), CBT for insomnia, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Prolonged Exposure for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Jessica has also taken training in occupational performance coaching and loves to work collaboratively with her clients to help them regain the capacity to do their valued activities. She aims to provide a collaborative service to her clients within the context of a multidisciplinary team, and she feels fortunate to be part of the wonderful team at Tall Tree!
Outside of work, Jessica loves spending time with her husband and two young children while exploring the beauty of Vancouver Island.
