Alison Maira

Alison Maira, Registered Clinical Counsellor at Tall Tree Health in Vancouver on Commercial Drive

Registered Clinical Counsellor | Vancouver

Areas of Expertise: Stress, Anxiety, Work-Life Balance, Life Transitions, Post MVA Anxiety (ICBC)

I take a calm and thoughtful approach to mental health care. My areas of interest include stress and anxiety management, work/life balance, life transitions (including career/education, pregnancy & postpartum, parenthood, perimenopause & menopause, retirement), post MVA anxiety (as a driver and/or passenger), and post-concussion mental health support. I view mental health through a wide perspective, considering how your thoughts and feelings interact with your habits, relationships, and environment to influence your behaviours and how you feel.

My practice is evidence-based and focused on achievable strategies, ideas, and coping skills that you can practice and integrate into your daily life. I strongly believe in client autonomy. I will give you the most accurate information available to help you understand what is going on with your mental health so you can make knowledgeable decisions about your care.

As a mental health care provider, I strive to give care that is respectful, dignified, well-designed, and tailored to the individual. In my experience, clear communication and good listening help build the therapeutic relationship – the bond between you and I that deepens every session – that leads to the best outcomes for clients. My sessions are calm, slow-paced, in a quiet room with dim lighting. There is time and space for your questions. My aim for every session is collaborative problem-solving, safety, education, and hope.

Outside the clinic, I enjoy walks outside, reading, taking care of my family, having fun with my friends, listening to music and playing piano.
