Tall Tree is Planting Short Sprouts for a Healthy Planet

Did you know that Tall Tree plants a tree for every appointment? Since 2019, we’ve helped plant over 130,000 trees and counting through our Short Sprouts initiative and working with local non-profit organizations.

Our current partner is Redd Fish Restoration, a non-profit organization on the west coast of Vancouver Island that works to conserve wild fish through habitat restoration, research, and monitoring.

The only thing more integral to the fabric of coastal B.C. than the ancient forests is the Pacific salmon.
— Redd Fish Restoration

Vancouver Island was once home to legendary salmon runs of chinook, coho, chum, sockeye, pink and steelhead. Due to habitat destruction, over-fishing, and poor management since the 1970’s, their numbers are in a steady decline.

This is where Redd Fish Restoration comes in.

They employ a top-down methodology, which means they address a watershed’s upslope instability first before working on in-stream restoration. The trees they plant help to provide stability to a slope which then decreases the amount of run-off that ends up in the streams. As the habitats improve over time, so will the health of the species that once lived there.

By starting at the source of the problem, they are working to reverse the decades of damage from poor logging practices to revitalize the spawning habitats and to encourage wild fish population growth.

Redd Fish Restoration’s efforts reach all over Vancouver Island. Their current projects include Tranquil Creek, Kennedy Flats Watershed, and many more.

Through our partnership with Redd Fish, Tall Tree - and all of you - have already helped:

  • Brush 18 hectares within the riparian zone of Tranquil River

  • Plant 10,000 conifers within the riparian zone of Tranquil River

  • Boost local employment

  • Distribute dollars to local contractors

We’re proud to play a role in helping to restore our forests to preserve our wild fish stocks and we’re excited to have you along for the journey.

Book an Appointment and plant a tree.
