Making mental health support more accessible.
Why Reduced-Cost Counselling?
Cost shouldn't have to stand between you and getting the support you need.
Tall Tree offers two reduced-cost counselling options: Student Counselling with counsellors completing their graduate training under professional supervision, and Non-Registered Counselling with counsellors who have completed their training and are working toward registration.
Both options offer thoughtful, personalized support in a welcoming environment at a lower cost than standard counselling sessions.
Whether you're navigating anxiety, stress, grief, relationships, life transitions, or simply feel like you could use someone to talk to, we're here to help make counselling more accessible.
Reduced-Cost Counselling can help you:
-
Get mental health support at a more affordable private-pay rate.
-
A lower session fee can make regular appointments easier to fit into your budget.
-
A more accessible option if you don’t have extended health benefits or have limited coverage.

What to Expect
Your first appointment is a chance to talk about what brought you to counselling, what you've been experiencing, and what you'd like to get out of your sessions.
Together, you and your counsellor will identify your goals and begin developing an approach that works for you.
There's no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what you want to work on. Your counsellor can help you figure that out along the way.
Contact us to book or to learn more.
-
Your first session gives you and your counsellor time to get to know each other, discuss what's bringing you to counselling, and explore what you'd like support with. You'll begin identifying goals and deciding what ongoing counselling could look like for you.
-
Follow-up sessions build on the conversations and goals established during your initial appointment. Your counsellor will continue working with you at a pace that feels manageable, adapting your sessions as your needs and goals change.
FAQs
-
Reduced-cost counselling provides access to therapy at a lower session fee. At Tall Tree, these sessions are offered by Clinical Counselling Students completing graduate-level training under professional supervision.
-
Yes. Our non-registered counsellors have completed their graduate-level counselling education and clinical training and are gaining additional experience while working toward professional registration. They can provide counselling independently or with supervision, depending on where they are in the registration process.
“Non-registered” simply means they do not currently hold the Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation. The BC Association of Clinical Counsellors requires applicants to meet specific education, coursework and clinical supervision requirements before receiving the RCC designation.
-
Clinical Counselling Students are completing graduate-level education and supervised clinical training. They receive ongoing supervision to support their clinical development and the care they provide.
-
A Clinical Counselling Student is still completing their graduate-level counselling program and practicum. Their counselling sessions are supervised as part of their education, which may include sessions being recorded and reviewed by their supervisor.
A non-registered counsellor has already completed their graduate-level counselling education and clinical training but does not currently hold the RCC designation. They may be working toward registration, and ongoing supervision may or may not be part of their practice.
Both options provide a more affordable way to access counselling. The main difference is where the counsellor is in their education and professional journey.
-
While student counsellors are earlier in their careers, they receive regular supervision and bring current graduate-level education and training into their sessions. Reduced cost doesn't mean reduced attention or care.
-
Reduced-cost counselling may be a good fit for anyone who wants mental health support but finds the cost of standard counselling difficult to manage. You don't need to be experiencing a crisis or have a diagnosis to benefit from counselling.
-
You can come to counselling for many reasons, including anxiety, stress, low mood, grief, relationships, work or school challenges, major life changes, self-esteem, or simply feeling stuck.
You also don't need to know exactly what's wrong before your first appointment. Figuring out what you need support with can be part of the process.
-
Reduced-cost sessions are offered at a lower private-pay rate than standard counselling appointments. Reduced-cost sessions are $84+ GST per 50-minute session.
-
Sessions are not eligible for reimbursement through extended health insurance or third-party funders.
-
Yes. Tall Tree's team includes counsellors and psychologists with different areas of experience. If your needs change or another clinician would be a better fit, we can help you explore your options.
