Your first appointment is focused on making sure Arthrosamid® is the right treatment for your knee. We’ll review your symptoms, health history, previous treatments, and any relevant imaging before creating a plan that fits your needs.

During your consultation, Dr. Sydney will evaluate your condition, review your medical history and determine if an ARTHROSAMID® injection is suitable for you.

Preparation: The area where the injection will be given is cleaned and prepared for the injection. A local anesthetic is injected to reduce discomfort associated with the injection
Ultrasound Guidance: To ensure precision, all ARTHROSAMID® injections are done with the assistance of ultrasound. This allows the doctor to see the exact position of the needle, improving accuracy and effectiveness.
Injection: A small needle is used to inject the ARTHROSAMID® into the affected area. The injection itself typically takes only a few minutes.
Post-Injection Care: After the injection, you may experience temporary soreness at the injection site. Your doctor will provide instructions on any activity limitations or aftercare.

Arthrosamid® is a non-biodegradable hydrogel injection made of 97.5% water and 2.5% cross-linked polyacrylamide. Once injected into the knee, it integrates with the synovial lining to provide long-lasting cushioning and lubrication.

Steroid injections primarily reduce inflammation and typically provide temporary relief lasting weeks to months. Arthrosamid® physically integrates with the joint lining and has demonstrated sustained pain relief for up to five years after a single injection.

Some patients notice improvement within the first few weeks, although maximum benefit typically develops over 4 to 12 weeks.

Following an assessment, the injection is performed under ultrasound guidance. A local anesthetic is used before Arthrosamid ® is injected into the knee joint. The procedure typically takes 30–60 minutes.

Avoid strenuous activity for the first 48 hours. Mild pain, swelling, or stiffness can occur during the first week and usually resolves on its own.

Arthrosamid may not be suitable if you have an active joint infection, recent knee arthroscopy, a knee replacement, certain bleeding disorders, or other conditions affecting the knee. Your physician will determine whether you're a suitable candidate during your consultation.

Clinical studies have demonstrated an excellent safety profile. The most commonly reported side effects are temporary joint pain or swelling following the injection, which are typically mild and resolve within days to weeks.

Yes. Treatment is available if you are travelling to B.C., including from the United States. Your initial assessment and injection appointment must take place in person in B.C. Any follow-up appointments must also take place while you are physically in B.C., whether they are held in person or virtually.
You should plan to stay in the area for at least one week after the injection so you can access follow-up care if any concerns arise. You should also review the reasons the treatment may not be suitable for you before making travel arrangements.
