Occupational Therapist - Vancouver


Cayla is a passionate advocate for increasing equitable access to mental health services across British Columbia. In 2015, she graduated from Grant MacEwan University which is located in Alberta with a Physical and Occupational Therapist Assistant diploma. Cayla worked in this role for 5 years while completing her hybrid Community Rehabilitation and Disability Studies degree through the University of Calgary. While working with fellow Occupational Therapists within diverse practice areas, Cayla found her passion for Occupational Therapy. In 2020, Cayla graduated and was successfully selected as an out of province student for the Master of Occupational Therapy program at the University of British Columbia.

Her research project throughout her master’s was with Foundry, an integrated youth services health care network. Throughout her research, she analyzed the activities that youth were engaging in and created occupational profiles of youth and young adults accessing mental health services.Cayla quickly fell in love with the culture and environment of Vancouver. You will see her consistently outdoors running, hiking, playing volleyball and snowboarding. She is an animal lover and in 2016 Cayla and her partner adopted their cat Oreo.

Cayla understands the importance of engaging in meaningful occupations and extends this to the clients she works with. Cayla’s positive personality and caring nature create a safe space for her clients to discuss their current occupation challenges.Cayla is keen to explore various areas of practice and build her knowledge include concussion recovery, youth and young adult mental health, and cognitive rehabilitation after brain injury. Cayla’s clinical rotations throughout her master’s program included in-patient geriatric psychiatry, acute care, home and community care, and outpatient youth and young adult mental health program in the downtown east side. Cayla brings diverse knowledge to the Tall Tree team and cannot wait to work alongside her clients and support them to achieve their treatment goals and improve their quality of life.
